The National Historical Commission of the Philippines and the City Government of Taguig signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on 14 September 2023 for the eventual democratization of the book “Taguig: Our Probinsyudad” through the National Memory Project (NMP) at memory.nhcp.gov.ph.

Held at the Convention Hall of the New City Hall Building of Taguig, the event was attended by local officials, city hall employees, other government and private institutions, and advocates of local history and heritage. Signing on behalf of the NHCP was Chairman Emmanuel Franco Calairo and witnessed by Deputy Executive Director for Programs and Project Alvin R. Alcid; and Mayor Laarni Cayetano, on behalf of the Taguig City with City Administrator Atty. Jose Luis G. Montales the witness.

In her speech, Taguig City Mayor Laarni Cayetano was deeply honored that their book would now be accessed not only by the people of Taguig but everyone worldwide. She hoped that this undertaking would inspire other localities to contribute their stories to NMP.

Published in 2021, the 144-page coffee table book documents the history and culture of Taguig and how the city government’s effort to maintain the provincial life in the midst of being a highly urbanized city of Metro Manila.

The National Memory Project envisions democratized Philippine history materials. It was launched on 1 August 2023 in time of History Month 2023.
